Michelle Obama’s speech at the Democratic National Convention last night, was powerfully moving and so NEEDED. She spoke to the hearts of the people watching her. She also defined the issues that are the center of this presidential election. Issues like the future of our children, and the qualities folks should look for, when choosing a leader.
“When you have the nuclear codes at you fingertips and military at your command, you can’t make snap decisions. You can’t have thin skin or a tendency to lash out. You need to be steady and well-informed. I want a president with a record of public service, someone who’s life work shows our children we don’t chase fame and fortune for ourselves.”
“When someone is cruel or acts like a bully, you don’t stoop to their level. No, our motto is; When they go low, we go high!”
These were classy reminders to consider Donald Trump‘s nasty attacks against anybody who threatens his power, image or ego. Also, Trump‘s proven record of profits over public service.
Michelle Obama also spoke to the emotional issues of the distant and recent past.
“I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves, and I watch my two black daughters playing with their dogs on the White House lawn. Because of Hillary, my daughters now take for granted that a woman can be president of the United States.”
“Heroes of every color and creed, who wear the uniform and risk their lives, to keep passing down those blessings of liberty. Police officers, AND the protestors in Dallas, who all desperately want to keep our children safe. People who lined up in Orlando, to donate blood, because it could have been their son, their daughter in that club.”
As for the country’s future, the First Lady gave a compelling endorsement of Hillary Clinton.
“Hillary has spent decades doing the relentless, thankless work, to actually make a difference in their [children’s] lives. Advocating for kids with disabilities as a young lawyer. Fighting for children’s health care as First Lady, and for quality child care in the Senate.”
Michelle Obama also brilliantly smacked down Donald Trump and his campaign slogan.
“Don’t let someone tell you this country isn’t great — that we need to make it great again. Because, right now, this country is the greatest country on Earth.”
